How to Use a Cleansing Oil (and Why It Starts on Dry Skin)
Skincare does not start with your serum. It starts with how well you clean your skin first. If cleansing leaves your face tight, or your serums seem to have stopped doing much, the first step is usually where to look.
Why Oil
Sunscreen, foundation and long-wear makeup are made to stay put. Water alone does not move them, and harsh cleansers take your skin's own moisture along with them. Oil works differently. It dissolves what is oil-based, including SPF, makeup and excess sebum, and lets you rinse it all away without scrubbing.
Clean skin is not stripped skin. A good cleansing oil leaves the barrier where it was.
How to Use It
- Start dry. Dry hands, dry face. Water stops the oil from breaking down what it needs to remove.
- Massage. Work the oil over your face for 30 to 60 seconds, including the places where makeup and sunscreen collect.
- Add water. Wet your hands and keep massaging. The oil emulsifies, and that is what lifts everything off.
- Rinse. Lukewarm water, until nothing is left.
- Follow with toner. Skin is now ready to take in what comes next.

Morning or Evening?
Evening is the one that matters most. That is when the day's sunscreen and makeup come off. In the morning, a quick cleanse is enough to refresh the skin. Our Cleansing Oil No. 1 is made for both.
Is Oil Right for Oily Skin?
Yes. Oil dissolves oil, and a cleansing oil that emulsifies rinses off completely. What you are left with is clean skin, not a film.
What Is in Ours
Cleansing Oil No. 1 is built on plum seed oil, squalane and sunflower seed oil, with bisabolol to soothe and vitamin E as an antioxidant. Eight ingredients, nothing more.
What Comes Next
After cleansing, press Balancing Toner No. 1 into the skin. Then treatment, then cream. If you want the full order, we wrote it down in The Golden Rule of Skincare Layering.
What you should notice: skin that feels clean and soft, not tight. Makeup and SPF gone without scrubbing. And everything you apply afterwards absorbing a little better.
